What happens if you were married outside of Canada?
Hi, my name is Ash Mazinani. I'm a divorce and family lawyer in Toronto. I often have people ask me whether there are any implications to the fact that they were married outside of Canada and whether the court in Ontario will recognize their marriage. The short answer is yes. The courts in Ontario will recognize a marriage that was done outside of Canada as long as there is proof of it or proof of a good faith marriage, and it will be treated exactly the same as any other person who was married here in Ontario.
