2. What is the difference between separation and divorce in Ontario?
Separation means the spouses have ended their relationship and are living separate
and apart, even if they remain in the same home. Divorce is the court order that legally
ends the marriage. A separated spouse is still legally married until a divorce order takes
effect. Divorce is required if either spouse wants to remarry.
